Shringar (Tilak) Darshan
2Sringar-Tilak Darshan during Janmashtami time.
This darshan took place at about 11.00am, Sriji was dressed in a Basanti yellow cakdar, a wonderful formal court dress with four corners. Today, they offered dohara dona sringar, a special occasion when two goswami balaks offer shrigars of their own to the Lord. The thadoo vastra (covering the steele behind the Lord) was navy blue and the picvai was red/ saffron. Rakesh bawa formally offer a tilak on Shriji’s forehead.
At the same time Lalan was dressed up in bhari (heavy / austentacious) sringar, covering his gadi in completeness, surmounted with two flower malajis (garland) and flower chogas. The pichvai behind Him was predominently orange with Nandbawa, Jasoda maa, plana and gop gopies celebrating the Nandmahoutsav.
Due to shortage of time, and huge crowds, gwal darshan was performed behind the closed doors (bhitar). Rajbhog darshan opened at 3.00pm – very late for the Lord indeed, especially as He had woken up so early in the morning ! Sri Nathji was replesdent in all His regal splendor. Golden toys are placed before the Lord. There are very few occasions on which Shri Nathji is offered “toys”, this being one of them. So, apart from Janmastmi, naum, birthdays of Shri Rama and Shri Vaman are the rare moments when gold toys are placed before Shri Nathji. There was a small gold palano, cows and elephants, all entirely made of gold. The thought that Nikunj Naik will today play with toys, is itself is enough to start making one feel the joy of Nandmoutsav.
Mean while Lalan was also very happily enjoying his all new gold khilonas (toys), 3 days prior to astmi gold khilonas are set out on the khand path (large low level table). After the Rajbhog darshna the next darshna is sandhya, which opened at about 6.30pm, and then the remaining darshan did not open, every thing happened behind close doors – bhitar. The special jagran darshan opened at 10.15 pm and lasted till 11.45pm. There was a dwarpal (guard) standing at Sriji with a mashal and the darshan was continuously open till 11.45pm. The same thing took place at Navnit Priyaji but there was no mashal there.
The darsan at ShriNathji closed at 11.45pm and there was pin drop silence till midnight. All in anticipation of the birth of the Lord. At midnight, shankh (conch) and jhalar (gong) were heard from the inner temple. There was a 21 gun salute given to the lord and arti and panchamrit snana was performed. This time, it was Shaligramji who was bathed. But this darshan was not open for the public at Sriji or Lalan, every thing is done bhitar (behind the closed doors). After the snana, mahabhog was offered to the lord and was laid out in the doltibari and the darshan hall. The bhog was kept there till the next day morning 6.00am – when vaishnavs could enjoy the darshan of the bhog.

Shriji Shringar Seva/Sewa
0Shringar:
Shringar in sanskrit means to get ready. In the shringar sewa we ready Lord Shrinathji for the day ahead as any mother would do to her child. We do the shringar of Shriji according to the sewa pranalika of that day. The shringar may vary from day to day depending on the importance of that day. There are different kinds of shringar for each utsav (occassion). Generally only the shringar of Shri Mastak (head) change depending on the utsav.
History:
Pagh-Chandrika and Gunja mala is the most basic shringar. The large variety of shringars that we see today were not started by Shri Mahaprbhuji, during his time the only shringar were that of pagh-chandrika. It was Shri Gusainji who introduced most of the shringars that we see today. This is one of the reasons why Shrinathji has accepted the shringar of pagh-chandrika as his favourite. Even on the patotsav of Shrinathji the shringar is of pagh-chandrika though generally on such a large utsav the shringar of Jod-Kulah are done.
There are many different types of Shringars in Pushtimarg. We shall start the shringars from charanarvind (feet) of Shriji’s and end on Shri Mastak.
Shri Charan:
* Payal: Payal are small malas which have small latkaniyas (hanging stones) hanging at regular intervals. There are always two payals in a set.
* Noopur: Noopur are shaped just as the payals, the only difference is that the latkaniyas produce a sweet sound like the ghunghroos of a dancer.
* Choora: The Choora is offered to Shriji on utsavs and it has a different shape. It can be made from gold or it can consist of precious jewels which are studded into a small bracelet like ornament. It also has latkaniyas at the bottom.
Shri Kati (Waist):
* Kati Mekhala: An ornament known as the Kati mekhala or Khusdra-Ghantika is present at the Kati (waist) of Shriji. It is made of precious stones making up a necklace-like shape, it also has latkaniyas at regular intervals. (Note : The vaishnavas doing chitra-sewa do not need this shringar as it is not possible to offer it to the Chtiraji.
Shri Hast (Hands):
* Kada: The Kadas are shaped like bangles (cut into half) and can be made from gold or can be studded with stones. They are present at the wrists of each hand of Shriji. (In sewa of chitraji this shape is different.)
* Baju-bandh: The baju-bandh is present on the biceps of Shriji. The shape of a baju-bandh can differ slightly, though the general of a baju is of a stone encircled by pearls (moti).
Shri Kanch (Neck):
* Kanth-abharan: A necklace consisting of two rows of pearls with a pendent in the middle is known as Kanth-Abharan.
* Shri-Kanth ki mala: After kanth-abharan 3-4 small malas are present which almost touch the Kati in height. These malas are called Shri Kanth ki mala
Shri Mastak:
Everyday more or less the above mentioned shringars remain the same but the shringar of Shri Mastak change as per the importance of each day. There are many different shringars but we write the name of only those that are well-known : 1. Pag 2. Dumala 3. Fenta 4. Kulah 5. Mukut 6. Tipara
